“I Dream of Horses Eating Cops” is a multi-disciplinary textile exhibition. Curated by Nwakuche, the exhibition retraces the paths of colonization as experienced through fabric traditions across India, Nigeria, and Puerto Rico. Through unique explorations of textile arts, these artists delve into how fabric, as a medium of material culture and identity, becomes a vessel to confront and reclaim histories affected by colonial legacies. The exhibition’s title, inspired by the poem “I Dream of Horses Eating Cops” by Joshua Jennifer Espinoza, reflects a vision of defiance, liberation, and survival.
Espinoza’s imagery, rooted in resistance and strength, complements the exhibition’s emphasis on resilience within cultural identities and traditions that have endured despite colonial violence and attempts at erasure.
